Back when I was in Kindergarten and Preschool; We had nap time, Craft time, and just general play that incorporated hidden techniques such as sharing, taking turns and developing skills we would form the bases of our social and interacting journey throughout life.. Having a disability of course, I was not a absolute SAINT when it came to that exactly... But still; Thats how it was.. Nowadays pre school (or PREP as we call it here in Oz) Is NOTHING LIKE how it started out. Another thing I'd like to point out in Australia's case now; There is NO kindergarten! The whole stage has simply been scraped!

The young prep children of today here are simply using resources of Apps vai Ipad/Tablets. There are expected to be completing a lot more assessment; (and I just don't mean ABC's and 123's) They are GRADED for each piece they do. Compare this to what is above; is it just me who agrees that people are starting to try to ripen our children TOO SOON?
On top of that; Children with special needs often get kicked to the curb because the delayed learning difficulties that many disabilities carry.

I started completing said tasks when it was in YEAR 2! By then; I had gone through 1 year of kindergarten, 2 years of preschool (due to my aspergers) and my first "proper" year of primary school. There is NO WAY in hell i would have been able to cope in the present time of early education.

Now comes the even more saddening thing, that I am sure that MANY of you have told yourself. Its on the subject of Kid's Cartoon TV shows. these are the list of mine that I can remember watching ( From age four)
  • Teletubbies
  • Magic School Bus
  • Arthur
  • Magic Mountain
  • Johnson
  • Pingu
  • Chalk Zone
  • Martian Morning
  • Fireman Sam
  • Banana's in Pyjamas
  • The Wiggles
  • Hi-Five
  • Humphrey Bear
  • Clifford
  • Pooh Bear
  • The powerpuff Girls
  • The grim adventures of Billy and Mandy
  • The Funny Bones.
These are just SOME of what I watched; and when I mean some.. I mean it. it could go on forever.

Aside from Pingu (Due to it having a 3Dish effect) all the shows listed here are either 2D (drawn and animated) or people in costumes. Today however, almost every single Kids show has a 3D engine/effect within it. (Shows like the OLD Banana's in Pyjamas and Teletubbies actually were more effective!) Technology, in my opinion has overstepped the mark here. Yes, 3D looks good; not saying it doesnt.. I am just getting the feeling that all the colour and effects distract the child from the storyline, therefore; the overall message/Moral is not taken in. My favorite TV show was and sometimes still is The Magic school bus... Graphics were basic, but It was balanced.. I loved to watch the effects they added. (the bus transforming or Mrs Frizzle's crazy dresses!) I retained the information from many episodes.

Without a doubt; Being a young child in this day and age has not just gotten harder.. but worse..

Yeah, The Magic School Bus is one of the few that taught me anything worth remembering to this day. What I've seen lately seems more cost effective with less substance.
